a constant commitment to the land and the environment.
The flavours of sustainability.
For us at Golfera, care for the environment is not just a recent commitment that follows today's trends, but a way of designing production in a responsible, sustainable way that has always been part of our vision. We are inspired every day by the connection we have with our land and the flavours of tradition, pushing us towards virtuous choices to protect the environment.
The land as a source of inspiration for the future.
The area we come from, a meeting point between Bologna, Ferrara and Ravenna, is our guide and inspiration, also in terms of company development. It is no coincidence that, on top of our historical plant in Lavezzola, we have chosen to produce our cured hams in the Parma area, and our deli products in San Mauro Pascoli, in the heart of Romagna's food culture.
Optimising the use of energy resources,
in order to consistently reduce the impact
and the daily consumption of fossil fuels,
and promote environmental protection.
Thanks to a chlorine-free water purification system, which uses ozone.
Readily available in nature, ozone has strong disinfectant properties
and is one of the strongest oxidants available for both organic and metal pollutants
as well as being a sterilising agent for microorganisms.
Through the installation of a new cold storage unit
that no longer works using freon gas, but
with natural and more ecological refrigerant.
With a cogeneration system,
which has already been active for several years. Thanks to it, the heat generated by the production of electrical energy is used as heat energy in the factory. This way, a highly virtuous cycle is created, which translates into a lower impact on the environment.
Self-producing over half of the kW we use.
Out of a total energy consumption of over 8 million kW, 4,990,915 kW, equal to 60% of our energy needs, is self-produced through cogeneration and our photovoltaic system, which extends over more than 1000 square metres. The remaining part still comes from renewable power plants in the area.
As well as rationalising our water and electricity consumption, we also work to constantly monitor the emissions and noise levels at our production sites.
Since a while, we have been working to develop packaging made from alternatives to plastic, or at least with a lower plastic content.
